Karis Baby Bank

Our Baby Bank supports around 600 families a year

Through this scheme, we provide families who are referred with equipment, nappies, toiletries, food/formula, sanitary items, toys, books, clothes, bottles, sterilisers, high chairs, prams and other items

Karis Baby Bank is a provision for families in the late stages of pregnancy, with newborns or infants up to the age of two years old who are facing hardship and/or crisis that makes it difficult for them to provide essential items for their baby. This provision is based on referrals from other organisations and groups who are well placed to assess the need and identify what items families need, including social workers, children's centres, health workers and other charities. Expectant families who are referred or who have newborns can continue to access the baby bank until their child is aged two years old.

Our focus is on supporting families in and around the Ladywood and Edgbaston areas, although we do work with referral agencies more widely where there is acute need and accept referrals from across the city in certain situations, eg. No Recourse to Public Funding, homelessness, etc.

Referral information can be found further down this page.

Donations

This service can only run because of generous equipment/clothing/other donations from people across the city who have good quality items they no longer need and kindly bring them to us for redistribution to families in need. Our team of volunteers checks these items, ensures they are clean and safe, and helps to make up 'parcels' for referred clients. Each parcel is bespoke to clients' needs and can include large items of equipment like prams, high chairs and cots, but also six months' worth of clothing, food, formula, toys and books, nappies, toiletries etc.  A full list of what we accept is at the end of this page, and you can also find more information on our Facebook page. We also gratefully receive donations of new nappies (we will accept open packets), formula and toiletries. We have an Amazon list which is constantly updated with our most pressing needs if you'd like to buy anything for the baby bank - these are delivered directly to us.

Cash donations are always helpful to support the purchase of new items eg. changing mats, mattresses etc. If you'd like to give a financial donation, please go to our 'Support us' page or click the button below.
