Our Projects

Our seven projects offer practical and emotional support to the local communities of Ladywood, Edgbaston, North Edgbaston and Harborne
Karis Neighbour Scheme has been present in this area for over 26 years, staying steady when other initiatives change or cease, demonstrating our long-standing commitment to the local community. We continue to serve people here through our established projects and by responding to changes in our neighbourhoods, working closely with residents to understand the challenges they are facing and, with them, develop ways to help mitigate the effects of those challenges. We do this partly through anecdotal contact through our clients but also more formally through a regular Community Advisory Group, which provides a forum for local people to discuss their needs and challenges with us.
Â
We focus on meeting needs that are going unmet, whilst adapting to the changing landscape of provision, collaborating with other groups and organisations to avoid duplication and to help provide a better network of support locally. We work closely with many supportive organisations here and across the city, including Early Help, Restore, BIRCH, Living Well, the Body Mind Spirit Partnership, Ladywood Community Project, Birmingham Settlement, Thrive, Community Network Support Officers and Social Prescribers, the city council, local medical practices, churches and adult social care providers. Our baby bank works with over 100 referral agencies/health and social care professionals.Â

We welcome volunteers from the community and from our participant groups, and appreciate the expertise and commitment they offer to our work; currently we have 87 volunteers working regularly with us across almost all projects.
